Totally agree it's imperative to gain traction in a pre-defined market. This allows you to figure out your strengths and weaknesses. I would even take it one step further for small businesses and add they should focus on other small business to create a strong value proposition to bring to larger organizations were competition will be stiffer as more $$$ will be at stake.
